status report: bought the supplies to finish the sword
it is now a blacksteel katana bc they dont sell white metallic paint, only black
so i covered the edge with tape doing some random wave pattern and painted the back of the blade in black
i tried to do a light painting, so that itd only be dark gray instead of straight up black, but apparently thats not how metallic paint works
what i got instead was a weird grainy look, so i had to cover it up with a real coat of paint and now its pitch black
and i mean literal pitch bc i looks like shit now, i might just repaint it and leave it fully gray
i also found golden paper, i didnt know that existed but welcome to the future ig
thats prolly how im gonna do the seppa now too
and ofc im now making the guard with a proper gilded look
and to hide the inner edges of the cardboard ill use plasteline and glitter
i also bought a yellow satin tape for the hilt

honestly man, its times like this that i live for
times when i can wield the power of creation on my hands
this is how god must feel all the time

sword is almost done
after multiple attempts and at least 2 hours of cutting the pieces and glueing them just right, guard is done
i ended up going with the 4th design on >>6334 bc thats the best i could do
idk if it took more effort than the blade itself but it sure felt like it
i have a headache again
prolly from sniffing too much glue fumes
seppa is also done, that was the easiest, just wrap a strap of paper tightly around the blade and glue it into shape
only the hilt left to do, but none of the pieces are glued directly to the blade, theyre just fit very snuggly, so the hilt will be the thing holding everything else in place
so i gotta fix a few blemishes on the blade first bc tying it up will take some doing and i dont wanna have to undo it
i hope i dont irrevesibly fuck it up while trying to fix it

after struggling for the entirety of yesterday, i finally got the sword's paintjob to look okayish (from a distance)
the annoying part is that most of the fuckups are due to not waiting enough for the paint to fully dry, which takes over an hour, thats why doing it now took a whole day
anyway, sword is assembled and it looks great ill defly get a gf this year im sure of it
ik i said the same last year and the year before but this time its different, this time its fr
no i dont wanna hear the definition of insanity, shut up
anyway i havent done the hilt wrapping yet, that sounds kinda boring and i wanna do the sheath now
besides, the hilt is already passably good
i stuffed it with popcicle sticks to make it thicker and fit better on my grip, and i used a black tape that uhh....
shit how do i explain this
ok so its complicated, the full story involves a punching bag and a night with friends, but the bottom line is that i have a piece of roll that was cut off from a full roll of fabric, so its effective a long-ass black tape
not adhesive tape, imagine martial arts tape but poor man's version
thats what i wrapped around the hilt to secure the popscicle sticks in place and its actually p firm considering i didnt use glue or anything
i just did a little stitch at the end so it doesnt unwrap
ppl made fun of me for taking it home, but i knew for certain one day it would be useful, so whos laughing now???

oh yea i forgot to mention i just bought the fabric for the kimono
also a measuring tape bc my grandma lost hers ig she really is getting old
i already have the pattern but uhhhh i dont really like sewing that much tbh
but like whatever, the needful must be done
the geta too, i also started work on that
already sawed and polished and drilled a wide plank (yes, also found on someone else's trash) to the size of my feet
i just gotta make a cordage first to check whether its even feasible to walk on those things
then ill paint it bc its a little bit rotten, but its fine, do the proper straps and nail the platforms underneath

making the kimono now
been at it for the past 5 hours
honestly man idk if sewing is for me, i feel like i do it way too slowly to ever be passably okay at it
also its so much work, just cutting the fabric is a whole thing
i gotta iron everything to make sure its perfectly planar and aligned and blah blah blah blah blah its all such a draaaaaaag, i dont even enjoy rambling about it
its very close to done tho, i only stopped bc i ran out of thread and i dont really feel like going out to buy more rn
i just wanna lay down a bit
at least this time i didnt get back pain, so thats an improvement
btw satin is a bitch to work with, too damn fragile
thankfully i anticipate my own incompetence and always buy fabric to spare
